Skin Radiance: Cornwall's Aesthetic Medispa

We are spoilt for choice when it comes to spa treatments and relaxation days in Cornwall but have you ever come across an Aesthetic Medispa? I was recently invited to meet Claire Connelly, the founder of Skin Radiance which is Cornwall’s brand new Aesthetic Medispa based at The Atlantic Hotel in Newquay.

You might be wondering, what exactly is an Aesthetic Medispa? Skin Radiance is both an aesthetic (from anti wrinkle injections and wrinkle reduction treatments to micro-needling) and beauty spa that offers a full range of aesthetic, skin rejuvenation and spa treatments for the face and body. The idea of an Aesthetic Medispa is a unique concept - aesthetics and spa treatments often link in many European countries but not in the UK (to Claire’s knowledge.) All of the treatments are led by the lovely Claire Connelly who has a wide range of experience within the sector and is also a Registered Nurse and Independent Nurse Prescriber.

I was kindly invited to try out one of the Skin Radiance Medispa facials. After a long weekend at the Leopallooza festival, my skin was feeling tired and blotchy so I was more than excited to let Claire do her thing.

I have to say, Claire oozes passion and it is clear that she loves what she does - it’s no wonder that Claire recently took the leap to get a base of her own (after recently moving to Cornwall). The Medispa is based at the charming Atlantic Hotel in Newquay. The treatment room is light and airy with an incredible view across the ocean.

Claire is extremely welcoming and sat me down to discuss what I wanted to gain from the treatment and what concerns I had regarding my skin. Currently, my skin is a combination type with the odd breakout around my chin and nose. Fortunately, the sunshine has helped clear most of the breakouts but it has left my skin with some dry patches and dark circles (from festival tiredness)!

Claire provided a 45min Skin Radiance Medispa Facial but given the the skin care concerns that we discussed, she decided to use the Genosys cosmeceutical skin care range which is developed in South Korea - I’ve now learnt that is the home of truly amazing skin care! The treatment consisted of a Deep Cleanse, Tone, EZ CO2 mask which improves skin firmness and elasticity whilst improving circulation, it prepares the skin to improve absorption of products, followed by a Non Chemical Dermapeel, Peptide Mask and application of serums, hydration, eye cream & serum and high factor SPF to complete the treatment.

The facial was extremely relaxing and I left feeling that my skin was brighter, glowing and even the texture of my complexion felt even. Claire also exfoliated my face and neck to remove all of the dead skin and I could definitely see the difference as well as feel it.

I’ve had a fair few facials in my time and I honestly believe that the Skin Radiance Facial has had such a positive effect on my skin (see below for a glowing selfie!) I also came away with a number of testers that Claire used on my skin throughout the treatment, which is such a lovely touch.

As well as facials, Claire also covers anything from body massages, body wraps, body exfoliation, anti-wrinkle treatments, glycolic and retinol skin peels, skin rejuvenation-micro-needling (tighten, firm and plump the skin around the eyes), mesotherapy (for brighter, healthier-looking skin), dermaplaning and LED light therapy. Claire is very conscientious about the types of aesthetic treatments that she has on offer - she would rather enhance your assets than completely transform them.

Claire has also formed a collection of Superior Aesthetic Medispa Treatments that bond aesthetic and spa together. She has developed them herself in order to find an individuals ‘skin radiance,’ as a longer, more relaxing spa type experience. The treatment is unique in the fact that they are a skin rejuvenation treatment undertaken at one appointment for quite a long period of time ranging from 2.5 hours to 1 hours 45 mins.

As well as Aesthetic Medispa Treatments, Claire also offers Superior Spa Experiences which are between 1.45hr - 2.45hr spa treatments and contain a combination of body exfoliation, body wrap, massage, indian head massage and facial.

I have never had an aesthetic procedure myself, however I do have several friends that have undertaken procedures and I am aware that one of their main concerns is finding someone that they can trust. Claire is a Registered Nurse and Independent Nurse Prescriber and sure knows what she is talking about!

Clients of Skin Radiance Medispa will also receive complimentary access to the luxury leisure facilities of the hotel. Renovated in 2016, the spa area comprises of a heated indoor, swimming pool, sea view jacuzzi, sauna, and a steam room. After my treatment, I decided to unwind and soothe tired muscles in the jacuzzi overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Recently, my boyfriend and I enjoyed an overnight stay at the beautiful Atlantic Hotel and we fell in love with the decor, especially within their champagne bar, Silks Bistro.

I cannot recommend Claire enough, she is very welcoming and made me feel at ease. I found her advice and experience second to none and the facial itself was amazing! Claire has some very exciting plans set for 2020, including fitness classes and packages - stay tuned, big things are in the pipeline for Skin Radiance.
