Taste of Spring: Plume of Feathers

The Plume of Feathers - a country pub vibe with a stylish ambience, using the finest local ingredients

Seriously, March was a incredibly busy month for me! My freelance work took off (WOOHOO) and I also attended a number of social events (ending with some really horrendous hangovers), so it was so lovely to finally sit back, relax and enjoy a wonderful dinner at the Plume of Feathers in Mitchell.

The Plume of Feathers is located just outside of Newquay and seconds away from the A30 - I’d never been before so I was intrigued to try out their new curated spring menu and to understand the hype around their new chef patron, Nat Tallents.

Taste of Spring - a brand new menu for 2019

My friend Luke and I, were kindly invited along to try out the new Spring menu, a passionately crafted menu that showcases the freshest of seasonal produce and exceptional Cornish provenance. Nat was also a former Masterchef contestant so I already knew that she MUST be up there, with the very best.

A 16th century coaching inn, the Plume of Feathers combines character of a traditional country pub with stylish ambience of a boutique B&B. As we walked into the dining area, we were welcomed with a glass of prossecco and a cosy log burner - it was certainly a warm welcome (no pun intended, lol).

Cornwall’s hidden country pub with a modern twist

For starters we tucked into a celeriac, bacon, truffle soup - not something that I would normally go for, but it was beautiful! Much to my delight, I was then presented with king scallops and cauliflower - If you have been following me for a while, then you will know that I am a huge seafood fan! My friend Luke however, is not quite as accepting of seafood, so he dug into a plate of Cornish lamb, and to be fair, it looked bloooooody ansome.

My expectations for this meal were high, especially considering my love for sister restaurant, Lewinnick Lodge. To follow, I had the catch of the day, served with celeriac, artichoke, fennel croquette, nasturtium oil. For desert, we were spoilt with a range of rhubarb & custard, blackforest and arctic rolls. I hate to say it but I’m a bit of a food snob however the food served on the night was delightful and beautifully cooked to perfection.

Escape the hustle and bustle in Cornwall

If you’re looking to escape the hustle and bustle then I would definitely recommend the Plume of Feathers. Nat is leading the way for female chefs and it definitely shows with her food. The restaurant itself is super cosy but has a modern twist to it - something a little different to your usual country pub/restaurant.

Oh and it doesn’t stop there. Described as “contemporary Cotswold’s style” the Plume of Feathers also offers designer, dog friendly, B&B accommodation - perfect if you’re looking to be within easy reach of beaches, Cornwall’s city Truro and the beautiful moors.

We were kindly invited along for a complimentary dinner during a press evening but as always, my opinions are my own. Thank you to the Plume of Feathers for a wonderful evening.
