Classic Glamour and Modern Luxury: The Atlantic Hotel, Newquay
Perched on the dramatic North coast in Cornwall and just a stone throw away from some of the UK’s finest surfing beaches sits The Atlantic Hotel, Newquay’s best kept secret. With a modern luxury twist, The Atlantic breathes classic glamour throughout both the hotel and their iconic Silks Bistro and Champagne Bar.
I was super excited to have been invited to stay at The Atlantic Hotel in Newquay, located just a few minutes away from the hustle and bustle of Newquay town but situated on the peaceful cliffs overlooking the ocean. As we walked up the red carpet to the hotel’s entrance we were welcomed by a concierge who took our bags and showed us to the reception area. With large champagne bottles used for decoration and black and white marble flooring, it felt like we had just stepped into a Hollywood film set (that happens to be five minutes from the beach).
Our Sea View Superior room was extremely impressive; with a king size bed, roll top bath and of course an unforgettable view across the Atlantic Ocean - I wonder where the hotel’s name comes from? As Josh got ready (yes, he takes longer than me sometimes) I sat on the windowsill and watched the world go by, with the jet skiers flying across the bay and the families and couples exploring the coast path below.
For pre-dinner drinks, we decided to head downstairs to the hotel’s Silks Bistro and Champagne Bar. Also open to the public, the champagne bar is the only one of its kind in Cornwall. With theatrical decor, the champagne bar and bistro offers AA rosette, luxury dining in a chic setting.
We trialled, tested and agreed that their brand new gin menu was a real winner. Silks Bistro and Champagne Bar recently launched their new Gin O’clock menu offering 2 for £12 gin cocktails between 5-7PM. I’m not usually a gin drinker so I opted for a Cosmopolitan from the traditional cocktail menu. I did try both of Josh’s gin cocktails and I loved them both; so much so we ended up swapping drinks! My favourite was the Gin Palace which is a mixture of Tarquin’s Blackberry Gin, Chambard, Absolut Vanilla, Ponsard Champagne and Blueberries - delicious! We also enjoyed a bread and olive sharing board - perfect to go with alcoholic beverages!
Considering the beautiful weather, Josh and I decided to make the most of the local beaches by wondering down to Fistral beach to watch the sunset and indulge in pizza at The Stable - one of my favourite dinner spots in Newquay that offers a super cool and buzzing atmosphere. After filling our stomachs with far too many cocktails and pizza we decided to….go to bed. JUST KIDDING, we wondered down to Fistral Beach bar and carried on sipping on cocktails until we found ourselves dancing the night away in Sailors, Newquay’s most “buzzing” night club - typical Frankie.
The following day, we woke up to another day of glorious sunshine beaming through the bedroom window. After watching the waves roll in with a coffee in hand we decided to make our way to the The Atlantic Hotel’s best kept secret - the private outdoor swimming pool. Now, the pool isn’t open to just anyone so make sure to collect the pass code from reception. Honestly, I felt like I was abroad rather than the UK - a real staycation dream! The outdoor pool area offers coastal views across the Atlantic and chic decor; perfect for a tanning or swimming session.
Sadly, the clouds rolled over the mainland so we decided to pack up our things to go to the inside pool and spa. I absolutely loved the spa, primarily on the basis that we had the WHOLE place to ourselves. Equipped with a pool, steam room, sauna and jacuzzi with views over the ocean, the Atlantic Spa is ideal for anyone who is looking to take some time out of the hustle and bustle of Newquay. Please excuse the image quality - my camera wasn’t a fan of the steam!
The Atlantic Hotel is a great choice if you’re looking for a glamorous, peaceful getaway that’s still just stones throw away from the hustle and bustle of Newquay town and some of the UK’s best surfing beaches. Even if you’re not looking for a night away, then I still recommend taking a visit to Silks Champagne Bar and Bistro for cocktails and dinner. A true stylish evening!
*The Atlantic Hotel invited us to stay on a complimentary basis but opinions are all my own.
