Rock Oyster Festival with Bordeaux Wines

After a lack of social gatherings for 18 months, it was nice to finally throw on my dancing shoes and make my way to the first festival of 2021. Rock Oyster Festival is a festival hosted by re-known chef Paul Ainsworth and has been taking place for several years. Located at Dinham House on the Camel Estuary near Padstow, Rock Oyster is most known for its incredible line-up of chefs and music. This year, Bordeaux Wines kindly invited me along to experience a day at the festival alongside some of the finest white wines.

To start our festival experience, we decided to explore the area and pick our dinner of choice. We soon spotted Hokey Poke, a local food truck serving delicious seafood, vegetarian, and meat poke bowls. I opted for the pulled pork poke, full of goodness. After so long it felt amazing to just sit on the grass, surrounded by people, eating good food, and listening to LIVE music. What a dream!

After our food, we made our way over to the Bordeaux Wine bar. Bordeaux Wines champions sustainable, diverse, and affordable wine. The team kindly invited Lucy and myself over for a speed wine tasting session which was absolutely wonderful. I’d done a couple of wine tasting sessions before (with other brands) however I found this particular session extremely informative. Sabrina is clearly exceptionally knowledgeable and a fantastic communicator, making the whole experience extremely enjoyable. I was pleasantly surprised to discover how affordable some of the wines are, and that my favourite wine the Bordeaux Calvet Saviougn Blanc is available to shop in Waitrose (and guess who’s local supermarket is a Waitrose!?)

Throughout the day explore the venue and learn from top Michelin star chefs. Try a range of small plates cooked by some of Cornwall’s most fantastic chefs for just £5 or indulge in other local festival food vans and stalls. There really is something for everyone.

We also went to visit the Bottega Gin Bacur stall which was beautifully decorated with their gorgeous bronze bottles and cocktail glasses. I opted for the Colombetta (Bottega Gin, Pink Grapefruit Soda, and Basil Garnish) and the Sandro Peach Spritz. Delicious!

With a little bit of a tipsy head, we then made our way to enjoy some live music. Rock Oyster had an array of musical acts over the three days. On Friday, we were fortunate enough to dance to Jaguar Skills and Dub Pistols on the main stage and then we boogied to some local DJs at the Mussel Beach tent - it was so much fun to finally let off some steam!

Rock Oyster Festival delivered a great time for all and I already can’t wait for next year. Thank you Bordeaux Wines for inviting us along for the experience.

** please note that we were gifted two festival tickets in exchange for promotion but we had a fantastic time!
