Cornwall to the World: Land of Saints Gin
Climate change and the conservation of our planet is currently the most talked about topic in the media (minus Brexit!) and for good reason. Overexploitation of the world’s resources is damaging ecosystems and threatening the very existence of some of the world’s flagship species; fortunately, more and more people are beginning to recognise and take action. Mike and Sue Bearcroft are the wonderful couple behind Land of Saints, a non-profit gin produced in partnership with Fauna & Flora International, the world’s oldest conservation charity.
So where did it all begin? After moving to the quaint Cornish village of Devoran, Mike and Sue became actively involved in village life and organised a Christmas fundraising event, which included a gin bar that proved to be extremely successful. From there, an idea sparked and Mike and Sue were inspired to create an organic Cornish gin that could also assist a conservation charity in their essential work in the fight against climate change.
A unique, natural blend of thirteen organic botanicals were produced with help from their distillers and a panel of tasters from the gin trade and general public. Distilled with pure Cornish water, natural organic grain and juniper berries; the organic botanicals also included are (and not limited to) coriander seeds, cardamom pods, pink peppercorns, ginger root, dried rose buds, hyssop, orange peel, camomile, violet leaves, blueberries, nutmeg and orris root.
Mike and Sue decided to collaborate with Fauna and Flora, the world’s oldest conservation charity who has been at the forefront of conservation for over 100 years. For every bottle sold, a minimum of 50p will be donated to the charity. Over time, Fauna and Flora have been able to take action, set up groundbreaking conservation projects and ensure a future for vulnerable species.

Mike and Sue’s idea was to produce an exceptional quality gin enriched by the heart and soul of Cornwall that can be enjoyed at any time of the year with an ethical footprint. With that being said, I recently enjoyed a glass of Land of Saints gin alongside a picnic in Malpas. Wrapped up in a blanket we watched the sun go down over the calming banks of the beautiful Tresillian River, just a few miles away from where the Carnon River meets Restronguet Creek in Devoran, where Mike and Sue’s idea of Land of Saints came alive.
I’ve tried and tested a number of gins during my twenties and I can honestly say that Land of Saints gin is definitely up there as one of the best. Of course, their “ethics before financial profit” vision makes me want to invest, but the actual TASTE is smooth, fresh and citrusy, unlike some bitter, harsh gins.
When I first received the bottle I completely fell in love with the branding. Reflecting both the quality and the county in which it is made. Cornwall features prominently on the bottle with an eye-catching design that captures thoughts of the sea.

Clear passion shines through both Mike and Sue. With a strong vision to help support the conservation of our planet, I can’t help but feel completely inspired and honoured to be in conversation with two people that are trying to make such a difference.
