5 of the Best Places to Watch a Sunset in Cornwall (Personal Opinion!)

There is nothing quite like packing up a BBQ and venturing to the Cornish coast to watch a sunset with friends. Watching the sunset is a free activity, and in my eyes, one of the best things that you can do in Cornwall. Now, this post is an opinion piece as there are so many incredible places to watch the sunset. I do, however, suggest venturing to the North coast if you’re on the hunt for a really spectacular sun-downer.

Gwithian

If you’ve been following this blog for a while then you’ll know that Gwithian is my all-time favourite beach in Cornwall. With three miles of golden sands, backed by sand dunes, Gwithian always presents such breathtaking sunsets. Gwithian is also a great place for a beach BBQ - just make sure that you take your rubbish home (very important, we want to keep our beaches clean.)

Perranporth

A surfers paradise. Perranporth is always a firm winner if you want to park up and watch the sunset from the comfort of your car. Often, I drive to the top carpark (Drysken) and collapse on the grass with a blanket. From here, you can admire the sunset and watch the surfers below. If you’re looking to buy food, then I suggest checking out The Summer House or The Watering Hole for a more relaxed vibe.

Chapel Porth, St Agnes

Chapel Porth has my heart. Either park at Chapel Porth beach or venture to the National Trust carpark on the Beacon. Both areas of St Agnes offer insane views across the Atlantic. We often park at the beach and walk over to the Beacon, stopping at the famous Engine Houses (Wheal Kitty) en-route.

Kynance Cove, The Lizard

Kynance Cove is incredibly magical during the day, let alone when the sun begins to set. Sitting up on the cliffs at Kynance is one of my favourite places to watch the sunset. During the low season, the beach is often quiet (in the evening,) so it feels pretty secluded. If you can watch the sunset during the winter at Kynance, chances are you’ll be the only one there.

Marazion - St Michael’s Mount

Is there anything more magical than watching the sun go down over St Michael’s Mount? I think not! Grab a blanket and watch the show from the beach or the NT carpark. If you’re looking for a place to eat, then I suggest The Godolphin Arms (read my review on their famous breakfast here.)
