Jet Skiing and Lunch at Carlyon Bay | Waverunners
Last week I was kindly invited to Carlyon Beach for an afternoon of delicious beach food and jet skiing with Cornwall Waverunner. I’d been jet-skiing before (in Turkey!), but never on our home turf so I was beyond excited to finally live my Lara Croft dream!
The mini jet ski safari is 50 minutes long and you cover 10-12 miles of coastline. For £65pp I think it’s super reasonable for the experience. Our instructor Jake stopped us at various locations (including Mevagissey and Port Mellion) to give us some insider knowledge about the areas. Exploring the coast from water is such a fantastic way to discover Cornwall from a different perspective, and it means that you can get a glimpse of remote coves that are only accessible by boat.
Jet-skiing is my favourite water sport, so I couldn’t help but hit the throttle up to 70mph (much to Ellie’s horror.) We were the only ones on the excursion which meant that we could go at whatever speed we wanted. Ellie and I shared a double jet-ski so despite the adrenaline rush, it’s pretty important to cut the corners carefully, otherwise your partner may go flying! Our instructor led the way, and the only thing he asked from us was to stay within his white water which was created behind the jet-ski to enable safe skiing. You are also given the opportunity to go for a swim off of one of the secluded coves. Sadly we didn’t see any sea life but previous skiers spotted porpoises and dolphins which is such a dream!
You will also find a collection of Carlyon Bay food & drink pop ups serving up a feast of beach life. We decided to indulge in Jaspers Kitchen Cornwall pizza which was EXACTLY what we needed to energise us pre jet skiing. I’d been craving a decent pizza for months and Jasper’s definitely delivered - I recommend the BBQ base, it was amazing!
There are other foodie options such as Harvester Seafood Shack, Jusu Kitchen (slow cooked meats,) Manor Kitchen (cream tea,) Ogy1 Pasty Shack, Wrap Shack and not forgetting Shoreside Bar which serves up Tarquins Gin (every day until 11pm) and live music on a Friday evening. The bar is protected by large canvas so if you visit Carlyon Bay on a temperamental Cornish rain shower then they have you covered (quite literally!) There are also picnic benches if you’d prefer to embrace the sea air.
If jet-skiing isn’t your thing then Waverunners also offer paddle boarding and kayaking. Alternatively, indulge in coastal yoga with Elm Yoga and fitness sessions with Kinetic Energy which are available to book via their individual business website. Waverunner jet-skiing is also available at Lusty Glaze, Newquay.
Thank you Wave Runners & Carlyon Bay beach for a fun-filled afternoon! This was a gifted experience, but as always this post is my own opinion.
