Cornwall's Tropical Garden: Trebah Gardens

It’s no doubt that Cornwall is loved by many because of its incredible beaches and coastline, but lets not forget about Cornwall’s outstanding gardens! Trebah Gardens is located beside the Helford River and to me, is one of the best gardens in Cornwall.

Trebah Gardens

The Easter Bank holiday sent us glorious sunshine and high temperatures that soared to 23 degrees, so my family and I decided to head to Trebah Gardens. Trebah has always been an all time favourite and an area that we visited regularly as little ones.

Every Easter we would head to the gardens for the Trebah Garden Easter egg hunt. I know that I am of course 24 years old and can no longer get away with joining in on children’s Easter egg hunts, but the thought of a trip to Trebah Gardens with the family still made my heart happy.

Trebah Gardens is just outside of Falmouth and tucked away on the Helford River with its own private beach. Our subtropical climate here in Cornwall means that Trebah Gardens is home to so many magnificent flowers and plants, some that you wouldn’t expect to see. It is one of the Great Gardens and has been rated among the 80 finest gardens in the world and it’s pretty obvious to understand why!

The garden has four miles of footpath and has many play trails throughout, making it perfect for children too. Trebah offers an all year round experience with vibrant colours that sweep through the area during the springtime and the spectacular champion trees dominate the landscape during the colder months.

Explore the two acres of hydrangeas that border the banks of the tranquil Mallard Pond and escape under the green twilight world of the Gunnera Passage. Venture across the Rhododendron Valley and run through the bamboo paths located alongside the water - another favourite of mine when I used to believe pandas lived in the UK…

At the end of the garden, there is a small narrow passageway that takes you over the South West Coast Path and onto the private beach aka Polgwidden Cove. When the tide is out you can climb onto the rocks and around to Glendurgan, a cute cornish village.

Trebah Gardens is open all year round from 10pm - 5pm, and costs £10.50 for adults and £5 for little ones.
