Charlestown Staycation with St Austell Brewery
Last month my sister Niki and I enjoyed 24 hours in Charlestown with St Austell Brewery, an award-winning brewery and thriving pub estate across Cornwall and the South West. St Austell Brewery is currently offering Cosy Autumnal Breaks which includes a two-night stay and dinner for two across several locations (from £189.) Niki and I jumped straight into the Charlestown dream with a night stay at The Rashleigh Arms, followed by dinner at The Pier House and a brewery tour the following day.
Autumn in Cornwall is easily my favourite time of year; the weather is still beautiful, but the crowds disperse and the beaches become quieter. The Rashleigh Arms is the perfect place to wind down, eat a tonne of good food & explore some of Cornwall’s most famous harbour. After we checked into our room (literally a 5 second walk to the water!) we made our way to their sister pub, The Pier House Charlestown for dinner. The location of this pub is impossible to beat, and the food was just as good (focusing on fresh seafood from the bay & pub classics.)
For dinner, I went for basil and toasted pin nut gnocchi, followed by steak. I rarely choose steak when I go out for dinner but I had a wild moment, and I can assure you, it did not disappoint. Niki went for mussels which were caught straight from the bay - it doesn’t get much fresher than that! We both then went for the sticky toffee pudding and (big statement I know) it was the nicest sticky toffee pudding I’ve ever had!
The following day we woke up early so we could fuel up with a cooked breakfast from The Rashleigh, before making the most of the coastal town being so peaceful. After a good stomp, we decided to check out some of the local South West Coast path - we ventured to Pentewen, and whilst Niki scoured the beach for sea glass, I crashed onto the sand and read my book. It was absolute bliss and was an instant reminder of why Cornwall is such a dream during the autumn months. Minus a few friendly locals, the beach was empty. Idyllic.
After our morning by the sea, we ventured to St Austell Brewery for lunch at The Hicks Bar and a tour around the brewery. The staff at The Hicks Bar were super friendly and talked through the different beers that they had available, including several that we’d never heard of before! The tour was extremely insightful and we both went home with a smile on our faces, and a body full of beer. Niki and I both thought that a Brewery tour would make a great gift to the boozy beer loving males in our lives!
Thank you @st_austell_brewery for an amazing 24 hours - it was absolutely heavenly! St Austell Brewery are currently offering ‘Cosy Autumn Breaks’ across a selection of their sites (from £189.) The break includes a two-night stay, breakfast and a two-course dinner for two!
